Current Building Regulations insist all new non-domestic buildings with more than one storey provide 'refuge' areas – these are safe places where people who cannot easily use fire escapes and evacuation lifts will assemble.
Disabled refuge systems are installed in the safe assembly area’s and provide a protected means of communication between the ‘refuge areas’ and the emergency services control position which would generally be the same location as the fire alarm panel.
The call stations in the safe area’s should be installed at a suitable height for those persons who would be using them and should be able to call the control station using a single call button.
As with Fire alarms Disabled Refuge equipment should be tested at least twice per annum with all systems functions being tested.
At Servian Fire & Security Services Ltd we are able to offer all services from a design and installation of a new system to providing a Preventative Maintenance Schedule for an existing system.
